SPONSORS

This tournament has been made possible by the generosity of the folks at the Capital District Grass Doubles. They are providing the Spectrum Classics nets and scoring equipment to make this tournament possible. The Knights of Columbus extends its warmest thanks to them.

A special thank you for Mike and Diane's volleyball world - and the OC Ski Club for their efforts to help get the word out.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What does reverse coed mean? This format provides for a more level playing field for men and women. The volleyball net is set at the woman's playing height - and women can spike and block the ball next to the net. Men, however - are not allowed to spike or block the ball near the net. They can only hit the ball - above the top plane of the net - ten feet back from the net.

  2. Do all teams need two men and two women? No. Teams are required to have a minimum of one woman or one man on the field at all times.

  3. What levels of play are offered?
Advanced (Open): This is the highest level for the tournament. It is very competitive.
Intermediate (A/BB): This level is for skilled volleyball players - but are not open caliber.
Recreation (B): This level requires basic skills of consistent passing and setting.
Non-competitive (C): This level is for beginners and those who only occasionally play volleyball.

  4. Is alcohol permitted at the park? No. Absolutely no alcohol is permitted on the park land.

  5. Will food and water be available? Water and snacks will definitely be provided. We are planning on selling pizza and drinks at a reasonable price during the tournament as part of our fundraising efforts. Your support for this is greatly appreciated.

  6. How much does the tournament cost? The suggested donation is $80 per team. Make checks payable to Knights of Columbus Council #6862. Donations are tax deductable because the council is a 501c not for profit organization.

  7. Who are the Knights of Columbus? The Knights of Columbus is a fraternal organization of Catholic men dedicated to living out their faith in service to others. In 2007, the Knights donated more than 144 million dollars to Church and Community Projects worldwide. The organization consists of a overall governing organization (called supreme), regional divisions and local councils. Each council is set up as an independent, charitable organization. For more information on the Knights visit our home page and the links page on this web site.

  8. When does play start? The team captains meeting is at 8:45 am. Play should start at 9:00am. It's important to start on time to enable sufficient time for play offs.
